WINE stands for ' Wine Is Not An Emulator ' is a compatibility layer for running windows programs on linux. It achieves so by reimplementing Windows API for linux.
Why use Bottles?
Manually handling WINE settings can be a tedious task. This is where Bottles kicks in.
Bottles is a GUI interface that sits on top of WINE. It allows to you to create seperate bottles for each of your apps with different settings and libraries. You can even use Proton to run Windows games which is a patched version of WINE developed by CodeWeavers and Valve Corporation.
